And to complement shaded areas, here are two shade canopies from Tomorrowland area. I like the multi color fiberglass to give it a futuristic look (remember when the future was going to be filled with color?) Also some more of the wonderful chairs for eating in Tomorrowland. The eating establishment is the Yacht Bar located next to the Submarine Voyage.
I hope you all enjoy these obscure and esoteric images. What possessed the photographer to take these shots is a mystery to me. However, I am glad he did.

I love all the photos, by the way. I grew up in La Mirada, CA during the 1950-1970 era. We lived about 5 miles from Knotts. Sadly we had very few photos of either Disneyland or Knotts, even though we were there quite a bit.
These umbrellas were similar to the one my mom and dad had on our patio then. They retired to Illinois and still have the umbrella in their basement :)
I loved the color of those years and miss it. I miss all the colors. flowered and other designs that you used to find in everyday things like sheets and towels.
It is amazing that somebody was interested enough in the umbrellas that they actually photographed them! But it's the minutia that I love. Those checkered shades are visible in a lot of early images, even around the pool at the hotel. I know I have at least a couple of photos of people sitting and eating beneath them...I'll try to dig those up.
What restaurant did those Fantasyland shades accompany?

Tinker Bell - These umbrellas were around the 'Fantasyland Snack Bar'. Near the area where Mr. Toad and Tea Cups are now. GREAT PHOTOS!
You know, it's funny. For years, I thought I was one of the few who really remembered -- and now miss -- how much more colorful Disneyland used to be. Although the post-1983 Fantasyland is great, and even an improvement, there's something to be said for the original look and feel. I also miss the colors of both the Skyway and the PeopleMover. (sigh)
